Zack Snyder's blockbuster new take on Superman continues to command attention, and for good reason. One of the comic book world's oldest and most iconic characters, Superman has yet to find a home in cinemas since the days of Christopher Reeve. On the promising side, Snyder has his Clark Kent in British actor Henry Cavill, who certainly looks the part. This project is a huge priority for Warner Bros. and they're trying to keep as many hush-hush secrets concealed as possible, but the L.A. Times' Hero Complex parceled out some important news from the Sucker Punch director.
When asked to explain how much this new spin on the Man of Steel will tie into the five previous film installments, Snyder stated, "The one thing that everyone can start to think about is that we're making a movie that finally goes with the approach that there's been no other Superman movies."
So then what can we expect from Snyder's Superman film? The mantra appears to be "respect the canon, but don't be a slave to the movies." When you have the most recognizable superhero on the planet, you can't make him a one-dimensional soft-batch crimefighter like in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns. The director du jour, who recently snagged Kevin Costner and Diane Lane to play Kent's parents, adds that "our Superman has got things to figure out, but he's a physical cat."
