49. Observe and Report (2009)

Observe & Report Director: Jody Hill
Writer(s): Jody Hill
Actors: Seth Rogen, Ray Liotta, Anna Faris, Michael Pena
Quotable: "The world has no use for another scared man. Right now, the world needs a fucking hero."

Complex Says:

Jody Hill clearly doesn't have time for wishy-washy comedy. One of the minds behind HBO's mean-spirited and comical Eastbound & Down, the North Carolina native has a thing for seeing detestable people continually fail to better themselves. That's certainly the case in Hill's Observe and Report, which is even darker than Eastbound & Down. Conceived as a comedic Taxi Driver, the only good mall cop movie (screw you, Paul Blart) hones in on Ronnie Barnhardt (Seth Rogen), a self-righteous yet powerless shopping center patrolman with delusions of grandeur. It's funny in an uncomfortable way—look no further than Faris' slurred line ("Why are you stopping, motherfucker?") during a one-sided sex scene that's borderline rape. You'll feel bad for laughing.

Fun Fact:

Fans of today's svelte Seth Rogen have Observe and Report to thank. He cites the film's shoot as his inspiration to lose weight, due to the difficulties he had breathing the thin air while filming in Albuquerque.
