Last month, Marvel announced the start of their “Big Shot” initiative, designed to take high profile creative teams and put them on new books starring some of Marvel’s more popular but underappreciated characters. The first "Big Shots" announcement was that Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev would be reteaming for a new Moon Knight book.

Now, at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, Marvel announced the new creative teams for both Punisher and Daredevil. Daredevil will now be written by comic legend Mark Waid (The Flash, Fantastic Four, Kingdom Come) with art duties being handled by Paolo Rivera (The Amazing Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, Mythos.)

"We want to keep the noir, we want to keep it gritty, we want to keep it street-level, Waid said to the convention crowd. "But maybe not every issue has to end with me wanting to have a stiff drink. The question is, can we move the dial just a little bit up on the superhero scale, just a tiny bit, and get back to more of the swashbuckler adventurer for Matt,"

Meanwhile, popular crime writer and comic book mainstay Greg Rucka (Gotham Central, Detective Comics, Action Comics) will now be writing Punisher with Marco Checchetto (Amazing Spider-Man, Daredevil) serving as the artist.

With these blockbuster creative teams in place, it will be interesting to see if these books, which are sometimes overlooked by fans, will become the hits that Marvel expects.
