“Star Wars: Episode I” Coming To 3D Next Year

Have you ever wanted to feel closer to Jar Jar? Here's your chance.

None

Get ready, folks, because the movie that you hated back in 1999 is returning in 3D! According to a press release spotted over at Deadline, Lucasfilm Ltd and Fox have announced that Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace is getting the three-dimensional treatment next February. This is the first step in planned 3D conversions for all six films in the Star Wars saga.

While some may be wary of re-releasing these classic, and some not so classic, films in 3D, there’s apparently no need to worry because, according to the original article, the whole project will be “Supervised by Industrial Light & Magic, the meticulous conversion is being done with utmost respect for the source material, and with a keen eye for both technological considerations and artistic intentions.”

We’ll just come right out and say it: Most fans are waiting for the good Star Wars movies to be re-released in 3D and have no plans on seeing a 3D Jar Jar Binks anytime soon. But if you desperately need your Star Wars fix, then a new presentation of Episode I is a decent place to start. At least it’ll look pretty.

Star Wars: Episode I in 3D is expected to hit theaters on February 10, 2012; no dates have been set for the re-release of the rest of the films.
