Rumor: Amazon Working On Android Kindle

Is Amazing looking to introduce a colors model to its e-reader lineup?

Will there be any room for regular e-readers in the near future? With a deluge of tablets hitting stores this year, and a number of e-readers blurring the line with color screens and web browsers, it doesn't seem so. To combat that, The New York Times' Bits blog thinks Amazon is looking to add a more dynamic model to its best-selling Kindle e-reader line-up.

According to Bits, new job listings on Lab 126's—the Amazon division responsible for the Kindle—website calling for developers with Android programming experience suggests that the company is looking to change things up. Amazon would be following a number of companies that already build e-readers running the mobile software.

Last week, The Wall Street Journal's Brett Arends wrote a piece describing how he used a simple hack to turn his Barnes & Noble Nook Color e-reader into a full-fledged Android tablet.

Of course, this is all conjecture and could mean nothing, but the prospect of Amazon putting all their know-how into building a sick, Android-running e-reader with a color screen is awesome.
