Sony Pictures is experimenting with a new way to leverage its extensive movie archive with a new app called My Daily Clip.

The app, available for free starting tomorrow from the iTunes store, delivers a hand-picked scene from one of Sony Pictures' thousands of movies, including Spider-Man, Bridge on the River Kwai, Superbad, Dr. Strangelove, Blackhawk Down, Ghostbusters etc. The videos are high quality and optimized for your connection speed.

My Daily Clip easily lets you share clips with friends via facebook, search past clips and play trivia games. And, of course, Sony hopes you'll click the "buy now" link at the bottom of the screen that takes you into iTunes so you can purchase the movie right on your iPhone or iPad.

This app may not have much reach beyond cinema buffs, but it's good to see the movie studios not resting on their laurels.
