The worst kept secret ever is that a fifth season of Mad Men will happen sometime in the next year. Whether or not it occurs on AMC and/or in 2011, however, remains up for debate.
The Internet was blazing like a cigarette break at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce on Tuesday with reports of negotiations between AMC and Matthew Weiner, and reports that they are or aren't close to a new deal. As it turns out, things are just about at the status quo: AMC and Weiner likely want to strike a deal, but they haven't yet. The upshot of this is that you probably can make other summer television watching plans; unless a deal happens this week, the series won't likely begin production in enough time to facilitate a July or August premiere. As the saying goes, though, the best things come to those who wait. Don Draper, we're waiting...
