Early this morning, Japan was hit by a 8.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred over 200 miles off its coast. The quake set off colossal tsunamis that toppled bridges, wiped out roads, and destroyed a number of buildings and houses. Amazingly, an hour after the earthquake, Google's Crisis Response team launched a Japanese version of its Person Finder online to aid in the locating of lost family members and friends.
First used after the earthquake that devastated Haiti last year, the People Finder is a multi-language database tool that lets people search for names for those they've lost, and also allows them to post news about people they have found. With over 300 bodies found, and hundreds reported dead as of this posting, this tool should prove to be a great help.
