This might not be who you were expecting to be cast in Game Change as John McCain, but it's pretty great nonetheless. HBO has announced that Ed Harris will play the Republican presidential candidate in the new film.

The Oscar-nominated actor joins Julianne Moore in the cast (she's playing Sarah Palin), and proves this is one telefilm that seems to be going with gravitas over impersonation or comedy; it's hard to imagine two more serious thespians embodying these roles. If there is one problem with the Harris casting, though, it's his age. Harris only 60, while McCain is 74 -- and he looks 74. Alas, that probably doesn't matter much to director Jay Roach and his Game Change team.

The film, which is based on the book about the 2008 election by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, should arrive on the channel either later this year or early in 2012.
