A mixed bag of news for you Mad Men fans out there: AMC has announced that the Emmy-winning series will return to the airwaves for a fifth season. The only problem? It won't be until 2012 and, currently, Matthew Weiner isn't attached.
Said AMC in a statement: "While we are getting a later start than in years past due to ongoing, key non-cast negotiations, Mad Men will be back for a fifth season in early 2012." Those negotiations reportedly include whether or not Weiner will allow additional commercials and product placement into his series, as well as whether AMC will cut the budget. That latter measure would allegedly force two regular cast members to lose their status. (Aaron Staton and January Jones, perhaps, since their character would seem to have the least to do in episodes going forward?)
For his part, however, Weiner isn't worried. "I love the show," he told Brian Stelter of the New York Times. "I have every intention of it working out."
