A double feature with a doubling motif that makes the whole thing sound more like an exercise in math rather than art, the Mulleavy sisters' picks for tomorrow evening's screening are all about stylistic excess.
Brian De Palma's Sisters tells the story of former Siamese twins. One has become a successful model, the other a successful psychotic. Split-screen suspense ensues in this classic genre-picture that (surprise) owes much to Hitchcock.
Krzysztof Kieślowski's The Double Life of Véronique is a dreamy rumination on doppelgangers and division. Beautifully shot by Sławomir Idziak, Véronique is an appropriate choice for two fashion designers who happen to be sisters as well.
