Here's some great news, though perhaps not if you were busy Google-searching for something a bit more scandalous. Zooey Deschanel has signed on for the Fox pilot formerly known as Chicks And Dicks, from Liz Meriwether (screenwriter of No Strings Attached). The comedy is supposedly about the "sexual politics" between men and women, which means we can probably expect something a bit more generic than (500) Days of Summer. (Sorry if that's redundant.)

Buried in the Deadline report on this signing, however, is that Deschanel turned down a role in The Office. No further details are given, though it makes you wonder: What role was she up for? It was reported that NBC was looking for a young-ish office manager to replace Pam (Jenna Fischer) next season. Could that have been earmarked for Deschanel? And where is Pam headed that she's no longer needed as the office manager? Such questions!

In the meantime, we're all just left to speculate on what might have been. Suffice it to say, though, if The Office is looking at people like Deschanel for future roles, perhaps things will be just fine when Steve Carell leaves at the end of the season.
