Deadline is reporting that Christopher Nolan is very close to casting Inception star Joseph Gordon-Levitt in an unspecified role in the highly anticipated film, The Dark Knight Rises. If cast, JGL will be the second Inception star to have a part in the new Batman film, as Tom Hardy was recently cast as the South American brute, Bane.

The cast of The Dark Knight Rises is shaping up nicely as newcomers Anne Hathaway (playing Selina Kyle/Catwoman) and Tom Hardy are set to join Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, and Michael Caine who are all reprising their roles from the previous two films. Levitt's casting would be another win for comic book fans who have been clamoring for the actor to be cast in this film from the moment Inception premiered.

While the rumors about Levitt's casting don't point to what role he may have in the film, fans can still sit around and speculate as to who he may be playing. There is still the possibility that he could play the villainous Hugo Strange who has been rumored to be in the new film for quite some time, or he could wind up playing someone completely unexpected. Stay tuned to Complex for more details as they become available.

The Dark Knight Rises will hit theaters on July 20th, 2012.
