Trailer Park: "The Music Never Stopped" (Starring J.K. Simmons & Lou Taylor Pucci)

It's about time someone gave J.K. Simmons a leading role. If the name doesn't immediately ring bells, allow us to school you: The great character actor played J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man franchise, Ellen Page’s dad in Juno, and held it down in a batch of other critically acclaimed films (Thank You for Smoking, Burn After Reading, Up in the Air). But seeing the well-equipped character actor partaking in a lead role is rare. In The Music Never Stopped, based on a case documented by neurologist Oliver Sacks, Simmons plays a loving yet confused father whose son (Lou Taylor Pucci) experiences a massive brain tumor, which distorts his memories. The best way for Simmons' character to heal his son is through playing music, kind of like how your father used to force Grateful Dead and Bruce Springsteen records into your ears, except, in this case, it's therapeutic. Despite lukewarm reviews from the recent Sundance Film Festival, filmmaker Jim Kohlberg’s directorial debut looks solid enough. Guess we'll have to wait until March 4th to find out.
