Special effects movies are great for a number of reasons, chief of them being the way visual spectacles can overcome the occasional bad acting. Look no further than Jurassic Park and Independence Day, two landmark genre blockbusters that both starred the ever-awkward Jeff Goldblum. In those hits, it's easy to forget about Goldblum's too-theatrical line readings and overall smugness. He's mostly stayed away from hugely-budgeted movies in recent years, meaning he's been pretty much unwatchable in the wake of those mid-'90s smashes.
