It's not even Cinco de Mayo yet, but Call of Juarez: The Cartel publisher Ubisoft has a few Mexican government officials hot. Chihauhua state legislators (Juarez is located in the region) are so upset about the game's violent depiction of the city that they have asked the feds to ban the game altogether. Apparently, the very legislators who have seen 6,000 people get murked in the border town in the last two years feel it's important that the killings aren't mimicked by a video game.
“It is true there is a serious crime situation, which we are not trying to hide," said Chihauhua state congressman Ricardo Boone Salmon in an interview. "But we also should not expose children to this kind of scenario so that they are going to grow up with this kind of image and lack of values." We doubt Ubisoft is shook enough by the threat of a ban in Mexico to stop production—but just in case, employees may want to cancel any trips south of the border. It's real in the field down there.
