When you read about a pilot on NBC that deals with the behind-the-scenes trials and tribulations of a Marilyn Monroe musical on Broadway, the chances are good your eyes glaze right over the words and head to the nearest paparazzi shot of Anonymous Starlet No. Whatever. At least Glee has high school cheerleaders! But here's a reason to possibly think of adding the new pilot Smash to your DVR if the show gets off the ground next fall: Katharine McPheehas been cast as the girl who will stop at nothing to play the stage version of Monroe.

McPhee, who was the Season Five runner-up on American Idol, will join Jack Davenport (The Pirates Of The Caribbean films) and Debra Messing (Will & Grace) in the pilot. If you're still not convinced, remember that Steven Spielberg is one of the executive producers on this Glee knock-off. Sorry, sorta knock-off.
