Earth's mightiest heroes, The Avengers, just got a little bit sexier with the addition of Cobie Smulders. Variety reports that the How I Met Your Mother star and former Maxim model joins Samuel L. Jackson as his second-in-command, Agent Maria Hill in The Avengers. Comic book fans will remember Hill's role during the Civil War storyline. Directly responsible for Captain America's discussion to lead the opposition against the Superhuman Registration Act, Hill "is such a strong personality... she's certainly as strong and imposing a figure as Nick Fury," quips Joe Quesada.

The film is intended to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe which crosses over several Marvel superhero films including Iron Man,The Incredible Hulk,Iron Man 2,Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger. Joss Whedon is attached to direct the Zak Penn written project and will star Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Mark Ruffalo.

We have to wait to smother Ms. Smulders when The Avengers hits theaters in 3D on May 4, 2012.
