Good ol fashioned brick and mortar record stores: you know we love 'em, and now they're getting their very own day in the sun (well, not literally, that would melt the vinyl). This April 16 has been christened Record Store Day, an effort to promote independent businesses all across the country and keep a necessary medium alive and kicking. It's also a chance for collectors to round out their crates with limited edition LPs and 7" singles, gems like the Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations”/”Heroes and Villains,” which Capitol/EMI will release as a double 78RPM vinyl single on April 16th. For those more interested in hallucinogens, the label will also be releasing An Introduction To Syd Barrett as a limited edition, 180-gram double vinyl LP package with gatefold jacket and printed inner sleeves. The collection, executive produced by David Gilmour, was released digitally and on CD in November 2010, bringing the tracks of Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett together for the first time on one compilation. Record Store Day will mark its first vinyl release.

Check Record Store Day'swebsite for more information on upcoming releases and remember to always support your local record store.
