Granted, sticking "New" in front of a 25-year-old title isn't exactly tapping a fresh vein of creativity, but they could've called this Polished Turd 14 and it still would've been one of our favorite platformers of this generation of games. Shigeru Miyamoto and his crew have an uncanny ability to reimagine Mario titles, and this riff on the original—which includes four-player competitive and cooperative modes—is too retrolicious to not pique the interest of anyone and everyone who liked video games.

FUN FACT: Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto revealed in a Destructoid interview that Princess Peach was not included in the game due to her dress, saying, "We would have to have special processing and programming to handle how the skirt is handled within the gameplay." Perv.
