#18: ERNIE HUDSON AS WINSTON ZEDDEMORE IN GHOSTBUSTERS (1984) AND GHOSTBUSTERS II (1989)

Everyone loves doctors Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, and Ray Stantz, but what about civilian-turned-spook-catcher Winston Zeddemore? Even a team of funny paranormal specialists needs its requisite black guy, and Winston more than rose to the occasion. Specifically in Ghostbusters II, when his amount of screen time was increased, the Ghostbusters’ fourth wheel knew his role and played it well, chiming in with level-headed input amidst his goofier teammates’ silly banter. For the time being, at least, the “funny black co-star” trend got bucked.
