#6: BANGKOK DANGEROUS (2008)
The Pang Brothers’ remake of their own perfectly fine, 1999 action drama Bangkok Dangerous ranks as one of the worst of Hollywood’s many bastardizations of Asian films. And guess who’s largely to blame? That’s right, good old Nic Cage, who gives the unfortunate combed-back hairdo from 2007’s Next another try while fumbling through clunky dialogue and embodying an incredibly lame hitman. Bangkok Dangerous is funny in that Mystery Science Theater 3000 kind of way, progressing from scene to inept scene with a scarcity of craft. In their original film, the Pang Brothers’ hitman was a deaf-mute—why they foolishly allowed Cage to speak at all in the remake is anyone’s guess.
