Jim Jarmusch’s international mystery from 2009 gets its Nashville premiere this week. Visually striking and full of the laconic humor Jarmusch is known for, The Limits of Control can be infuriatingly difficult at times, with almost no dialogue in a plot that is hardly explained. Isaach De Bankole plays a tai-chi practicing hit man who travels through Spain on his latest mission, drinking espresso and rendezvousing with Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Gael Garcia Bernal, and a naked Paz de la Huerta as he hunts down Bill Murray. On paper, it sounds like a rousing Jarmusch romp, but the long silences and repetitive dialogue can test even the most patient arthouse fan. Regardless, it’s a tremendous film, one that demands to be experienced on the big screen. -Finn Cohen
