If flesh-eating zombies ever take over the world, survival shouldn’t be that hard. There’s always the old school of thought, which teaches to bust caps into zombies’ heads. Simple enough, right? Not so fast, hot-shot. Back 1968, George A. Romero’s genre-changing independent masterpiece Night of the Living Dead introduced that surefire method of killing revived corpses, but a lot has changed since then. An endless array of Romero-inspired filmmakers and writers have worked new ideas into their zombie storytelling.
For example, during the first season of AMC The Walking Dead (based on Robert Kirkman’s awesome comic books), a zombie’s brain was pummeled with a baseball bat—simple, yet effective. As Z-horror works have shown us, though, survival isn’t only about how to kill the ghouls. It’s also about acting smart when there’s no “walkers,” as they’re called in The Walking Dead, in sight. Don’t worry, your Complex pals have your back. Pulling from past zombie films, we’ve come up with 15 foolproof ways to survive a zombie apocalypse. Chew on this.
