"A cat named Shaft ain't gonna be bad with a stick."
The trademarked line may have originated two years earlier, but Shaft didn't really become a bad mother... until this third installment, when he went on a international adventure to stop a modern-day slave trading operation. We could have done without all the ignorance about Africa, but at least Samuel L. Jackson wasn't in it.

This movie is a beautiful mess that will leave you scratching your head and hating the man. And the soundtrack, which inspired Black Bastards, is second to none.

This is the first mistake on the list.....please research the true meaning of Blaxploitation.... this movie does not apply.... this is the black version of Rebel Without A Cause.... just because it was made in the 70's doesn't mean it should be on the list....do the research.... where is the exploitaion? Step it up Complex

Now this is downright insulting!!!! Just like Cooley High...this does not belong on the list....think about it this way....ask Sidney or Bill is this a Blaxpoitation flick? Hell no.....solid storytelling, comedic characters, this employed African-American actors and actresses with decent roles....not Blacula!!!!!! Sidney is anti-blaxploitation...do the research.... this is an insult to the Legendary Careers of Sidney and Bill.....Complex step it up!!!!!

Props for this selection.......although this is also debatable if this should be on the list....props for listing it though....COMPLEX...would a movie that was banned by the government be considered blaxploitation? Actually, if it was, the movie would be accessible for the mainstream audience....the point of the watering down the movies to make a buck!!! Once again, step it up!!!!! Do your research!!!!

This has to be in the Top 3....... A movie where the Brotha actually gets away.....independent films at its best....Hollywood learned from Melvin how to use a modern day movie soundtrack....the list goes on....
Branch Rickey October 2nd, 2009 at 08:08 PM
Complex....do the research..... Top 3 has to be a pick between.....Superfly, Shaft and Sweetback....why? After these movies....Blaxploitation was created......
