GENRE: Science Fiction/Drama

WHAT: A two-hour, uncut, unrated, limited-edition version of the pilot for the upcoming Sci Fi Channel series Caprica, which is a prequel to Battlestar Galactica, the network's 2004 re-imagining of the 1978 cult classic TV show. Sci Fi will air the pilot and 18 one-hour episodes in 2010, but you might be homeless with no cable by then, so check it out now.

SYNOPSIS: When civil liberties lawyer Joseph Adama (Esai Morales) and wealthy computer genius Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) lose their daughters to a religious fanatic's terrorist act, their grief puts them at odds and sets in motion the ethically questionable creation of artificially intelligent robotic life—Cybernetic Lifeform Nodes, or Cylons. As Battlestar Galactica fans can attest, machines are like booty calls—they're great right up until they catch feelings.

FUN FACT:Battlestar Galactica devotees will appreciate the back-story, but Caprica functions as a standalone series and doesn't require that you devote your life to catching up on years' worth of BSG episodes, webisodes and TV movies. But hey, if you're already out of a job and sitting on your ass at home, Complex highly recommends watching the complete series, which will be out on DVD July 28. Find out what the frak you've been missing.
