New York rapper Lil Tjay has finally unleashed his sophomore studio album, Destined 2 Win, with appearances from Polo G, Fivio Foreign, 6lack, and more.

Lil Tjay has accomplished a lot in rap over the last two years, and he can’t even legally drink yet. The 19-year-old rapper crooned his way to a now-platinum certified debut album with True 2 Myself, and now Destined 2 Win finds Tjay looking to make magic happen twice. The 21-track project is reflective of Tjay’s growth, highlighting his ability to make a hit, as shown on the 6lack assisted “Calling My Phone,” and that he can work well with others—like when he links up with Fivio Foreign and Polo G on “Headshot.”

When talking to Zane Lowe and Apple Music about how “Headshot” came together, Lil Tjay shared that the three meshed immediately.

“It was just magic, on-site. It was no, no copy and paste. It was magic,” Tjay said. “I mean, it was just like, it was high energy. You know, everybody wants to come poke their chest out on the record. Everybody wants to perform, you know what I’m saying? So I felt like, in my opinion, I feel like the song just sound like three stars.”

In terms of how Tjay feels about both drill artists, he explained that he admires Polo G and Fivio because of their rapping ability.

“Polo’s unique. It’s like every time he come and he just, he just kind of same,” he said. “He just spit real shit. He just calm. And I’m saying flow aggressive. You know what I’m saying? Competitive. But like, he just needs it. He just came with that. You know what I’m saying? Fivio, I mean like what makes Fivio unique is it’s a little more obvious. You know what I’m saying? He always come with lead. He got the punch lines, you know what I’m saying? He knows how to keep the party lit. You know what I’m saying? And I feel like I just vibed out the rest of the rest of the track and just talked my shit.”

Ahead of Destined 2 Win’s release, Lil Tjay also dropped a documentary to accompany the album. Directed by Sam Balaban, episode 1, which you can watch above, chronicles the young rappers come-up from being undiscovered in the Bronx in 2018 to driving his foreign car and recording hit songs at his new home in California in 2020.
