According to OnSmash, police described the incident, saying, “Hernandez was sitting in a barber shop on Amsterdam Ave. at W. 151st St. shortly before 10 a.m., waiting to get a haircut. Perez [Kay Flock] walked by, opened the shop door, and asked Hernandez what he was looking at. Hernandez then stepped outside to confront him, police said. The two argued, and Perez started to walk away. But the teen pulled a gun and shot Hernandez in the neck and back.”

In Leemon’s statement, he confirmed Perez’s arrest was after a self-surrender. Further, his team would be conducting an independent investigation after demanding the surveillance footage from the incident.

Perez is currently waited arraignment Thursday in Manhattan Criminal Court.
