In a new interview, Playboi Carti opened up about his relationship with former girlfriend Iggy Azalea, with whom he shares a 2-year-old son, Onyx. He didn’t shy away from praising Iggy as a mother, telling XXL, “And Iggy, she’s a great mom. I love her to death. I’m single. She’s single now. But that’s one of the best mothers in the world. And that’s what you got to put in the book, you hear me? I love her to death. She is the best mother in the world.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Carti seemed to suggest that he takes good care of Iggy.
“I just got responsibilities,” he explained. “I pay a lot of bills. I take care of a lot of people. I take care of my mom. I take care of my family. I take care of my baby mom [and] I take care of my son. There’s a lot of people I take care of.”
Carti’s claims appear to have rubbed Iggy the wrong way. Hours after the interview was published, Azalea took to Twitter to maintain she doesn’t need his help.
“Take care of me? Lmaooooo,” she wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “Let’s not get carried away now.” After a fan replied, saying that they were also confused by Carti’s claims, Iggy added, “I laughed. A lot.”
After another user reminded Iggy that Carti’s conversation included many comments about her, she clapped back, “You’ve been mislead. I don’t fuck with a man I’m not even remotely on good terms with claiming he pays my bills. I pay my bills.”
Iggy added, “Secondly saying nice things for an interview sounds great but in real life he talks to me like shit so badly I had to stop all direct contact.”
