Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Frank Ocean will headline the 2023 Coachella lineup in April. The announcement led many fans to believe he was gearing up to release his first album in nearly seven years. And, as if the singer’s upcoming performance wasn’t enough to get fans excited about a potential new album, Ocean then dropped a cryptic message on social media on Monday.

The message was released on the back of a mailing poster and coincided with the reclusive singer’s new Blonded merch drop. The image on the poster is from a photo series that was shot by Michael Marcelle in the summer of 2019. Overlaying the photo, typed in large pink block letters, is a story about a protagonist named The Recording Artist on his journey in the music industry.

Frank Ocean is no stranger to sharing cryptic messages. He has often used his personal Tumblr account as an open diary to share his thoughts or even hint at new music. Though the story on this mailing poster is said to be fictional, there are some clues that would suggest this is a biographical story that Frank Ocean dropped in order to tease a new album. So, we broke it up into four different acts, explaining the characters, plot, conflict, climax, and resolution, and giving real-life context to each part. Check out the breakdown for your enjoyment below.
