For the past few weeks, Bristol duo Kahn & Neek have been teasing out extracts from their next EP, (Having A Sick Time) In The Mansions Of Bliss, and now we've got the final piece of the puzzle, "Shimmer".
A cavernous, almost industrial take on their grime-infused dubstep sound, "Shimmer" lurches thunderously through the speakers, transforming grimey and more futuristic influences into something that could only have come from this pair. The past few releases from the Bandulu and Young Echo pair have been mostly collaborative ones — working with the likes of Commodo, Gantz, Pinch and Dubkazm — but this one is all them, reminding us of just how tight they are as a unit.
Despite the dubby spaciousness of "Shimmer", the track's ominous tinges of dancehall and commanding vocal snippets would work very well for the likes of Flowdan or Killa P. In fact, we could think of quite a few MCs who could do wild things with this low-end mind-expander.
