Haim have released the video for "Summer Girl"—the group's first official single since their 2017 sophomore album, Something to Tell You.

Member Danielle Haim addressed the track's release via Instagram this week, explaining the evolution of the track and its personal significance. The singer revealed "Summer Girl" was written back in 2017, shortly after her partner, Ariel Rechtshaid, was diagnosed the testicular cancer. Rechtshaid, who produced most of HAIM's STTY album, is now cancer-free.

"We finished this song a couple weeks ago and thought, why don’t we shoot something real quick and release it," she said. "I wrote it around the time my partner was diagnosed with cancer a couple years ago while we were making STTY [...] We were touring on and off at this time and every time we were on the phone with each other or when I would come home in between shows, I wanted to be this light that shined on him when he was feeling very dark. I wanted to be his hope when he was feeling hopeless. so I kept singing these lines - 'I’m your sunny girl/ I’m your fuzzy girl/ I’m your summer girl - over the bass line. Summer girl stuck."

"Summer Girl" was co-produced by Rostam Batmanglij and Rechtshaid. You can check out the song's video, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, above, and stream the single now on all major platforms
