As fans patiently await Alessia Cara’s sophomore album, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter has given them a taste of what’s to come.

On Thursday night, Cara released a new record called “Growing Pains,” which will serve as the lead single off her forthcoming LP. The Ontario-native began teasing the track earlier this month on social media, and recently challenged a select group of fans to piece together the track’s emotional lyrics.

“Growing Pains” marks Cara’s first official single since “1-800-273-8255,” her Grammy-winning collaboration with Logic. Cara spoke about the suicide-prevention anthem during a 2017 interview with Entertainment Weekly, suggesting her second album might include socially conscious records similar to “1-800-273-8255.”

“I don’t know if every song is going to be like that, just because that would be very heavy,” she said. “But I’ve been writing new music, and it’s almost done, and I have a bunch of songs that keep those topics in mind. When you make your first album, you’re not sure who is going to listen, but now I’m aware that I have a platform. I’m always going to offer an escape or some sort of light for people. I’m trying to do all of that on this album.”

You can stream “Growing Pains” now on all major streaming services, including Apple Music/iTunes and Spotify. And be sure to keep your eyes peeled for additional information about the follow-up to 2015's Know-It-All.
