The season 43 finale of Saturday Night Live was one of the most anticipated episodes of the year. Not only because former cast member/writer Tina Fey was returning to Studio 8H, but because Nicki Minaj was tapped as the finale’s musical guest. Of course, there was a lot of hype and speculation surrounding the rapper’s appearance, with many fans hoping to get a taste of Nicki’s upcoming album Queen.

Shortly after her SNL gig was announced, the “Chun-Li” artist told fans she would perform never-before-heard material during the show’s season finale. Which is exactly what we wanted to hear.

Can’t anymore, my darlings. Doing SNL the day b4. Can’t make it to LA in time to rehearse on the BBMA stage. But SNL will be VERY worth it & that’s all I’ll say about THAT. ♥️👅🙌🏽🦄 https://t.co/ezgzv2daKz

I’ll perform a song you never heard b4. My fave on the album. 👅🦄 plus my second song. You can prob guess what that’s gonna be. https://t.co/SABvJNfa27

But then Nicki started messing with our emotions. Several days later, she hit up Twitter, claiming she had a change of heart:

Changed my mind about this babe. No new songs 🤭😘🦄 https://t.co/yhz4t8gohS

Barbz didn't know how to take this. Some were naturally disappointed, while others remained hopeful that Nicki wouldn't let her fans down.

Well, on Saturday night, we finally got our answer. The rapper hit the stage to perform "Chun-Li," followed by a surprise appearance from Playboi Carti for "Poke It Out."
