In an interview with PBS NewsHour, James Comey claimed that he once started singing Beyoncé’s “Sandcastles” during an FBI briefing after receiving a counterintelligence case that was given the same name as the title of her song.

"They always have weird code names,” he said. “It was ‘Sandcastles,’ and so I said ‘Beyonce!’ And I was the only one in the room who had any idea what I was talking about. People were like ‘What?’ I said, ‘We built sandcastles’… Honest to God, I sung like that.”

If the quote from Comey makes you feel like he’s more relatable, then bless your heart, because this just looks like a great example of that Steve Buscemi “How Do You Do, Fellow Kids?” meme. After all, let’s not forget that the former FBI director is still making the rounds trying to sell his memoir, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership. This could very well be a ploy by Comey to appeal to a wider audience by using the holy name of Queen B.

Prior to the Beyoncé quote, the interview points out that Comey “listens to Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar, whom his kids like,” which just covers all the bases, no?

If you need a reminder as to what “Sandcastles” sounds like, check out the video below. Or, bring up the word "sandcastles" around Comey, and he will apparently start serenading you. That is, if he's actually telling the truth.
