Director X, who's helming the new take on the 1972 classic, recently outlined his plans for the "timeless" story during a Deadlinechat at CinemaCon. "If you know the original Superfly, you're going to see your favorite characters," he said. "They're not going to have the exact same thing happen to them but you can see it's inspired by the original film."

X’s film will also be "light on moral lessons," as he's intent on keeping it a true action movie. "It's an escape with melanin," he added.

In addition to curating the Superfly soundtrack, Future is also co-producing the film itself. Michael Kenneth Williams, Trevor Jackson, Jennifer Morrison, Jason Mitchell, Adriyan Rae, Allen Maldonado, and Lex Scott Davis are among the film's stacked cast.

Catch X and Future's Superfly in theaters starting June 15.

Last year, Future gave us two solo albums (Future and Hndrxx, respectively) and his Young Thug collab project Super Slimey. Producer Southside, speaking with Complex back in October, said the 13 tracks on the project "aren't even the hardest 13 songs." He also described the project as "a teaser," meaning we may or may not get another Super Slimey in the future.
