It's been almost eight months since he released his last project, the Hot Boy EP, and now Calgary-raised high school student Curtis Waters is back with the appropriately titled Prom Night. Waters brings his distinct teenage perspective to the themes of love, heartbreak, depression and nostalgia across the 12 tracks, which is also entirely self-produced (with the exception of “May” and “Puking In Ur Car”, which feature co-production from Boygyem and Tommy Baby).

“The Hot Boy EP was just bangers for parties, but Prom Night deals with everything I’ve been through in a whimsical, cute way,” Curtis explains of his artistic evolution. The production is unique, to say the least (who else is putting a 1980’s style drum breakdowns in a rap song), but the lyrics are the most endearing part about the project as Curtis tackles teenage feelings and emotions with a naivety and honesty you can't find in many raps: “I know I said I wanted to die a few months ago, but now I don’t know what I want anymore."

Check out Prom Night below and keep your eyes and ears peeled for Curtis Waters. After all, he's finally graduating high school this year and given his prolific output already, we're betting that the best is yet to come for this young talent.
