Like many of his rap contemporaries, Snoop Dogg isn’t a fan of Donald Trump. The legendary rapper has taken aim at POTUS in interviews, music videos, as well as the controversial cover art for his Make America Crip Again album. You remember: the one in which Snoop was standing over a body donning a “Trump” toe-tag.
Snoop clearly didn’t hold back. That said, some fans may have noticed that the rapper’s criticism of Trump has seemingly softened in recent months. And, no, it’s not because he’s warming up to the president; it’s because he’s attempting to disengage from the negativity. The Long Beach native addresses his new position in the upcoming season finale of his Uncensored docuseries.
“You don’t answer to politics with negativity and the same energy that they have, because you’ll never win,” Snoop says. “This is system they designed. You can only beat the system by being the ‘anti.’ And the anti-hate is love.”
Snoop admits his criticism of Trump led to some inconveniences at first; however, he's decided to back off after realizing he was playing into Trump’s game.
“[I] threw a few shots at him, but I felt like that was going nowhere fast, because he loves that,” Snoop explains. "Let me leave him alone and put some peace in the world, and put some love in the world, and not focus on him […] just unite people of all walks of life—be the anti of what he is.”
Snoop continues: “That’s why my world is so colorful and it’s so jubilant with happiness. It’s not about a negative energy. Even though it’s considered gangster, but it’s the most loveable gangster in the world.”
