The Weeknd Shows Off His Hoverboard Skills in What Appears to Be New Music Video

Ok, so when's the album coming, Abel?

The Weeknd, a.k.a. Abel Tesfaye, was pictured taking over Taft, a tiny town in California about 120 miles northwest of Los Angeles. TMZ posted a series of promising shots of the “Can’t Feel My Face” singer walking around the town and apparently answering our prayers: it looked like he was filming something. With a scheduled headlining appearance at Coachella next month and no new solo music released since Starboy in 2016, it seems we can expect at least a single to be released before April. #AbelSZN is officially upon us, let us rejoice.

Production sources told TMZ that the singer had descended upon Taft last week to film the video for his new single. In the short videos released by TMZ, Abel can be seen walking down the street towards a camera (classic music video fare) as well as gliding on a white hoverboard at night. There also seem to be some rain scenes, although that could have just been bad planning on his production team’s part.

The Weeknd will headline the Friday night shows at Coachella next month, and it’s only fair that he releases new music to jam out to at the California music festival. He has also been confirmed for Lollapalooza in August, so he'll definitely need new material by then. It should be noted, though, that all of this is mere speculation, since there have so far been no official words from Abel or his team about a new single or album. The last project that the artist appeared on was Black Panther: The Album, in which he sung on “Pray for Me” alongside Kendrick Lamar, which peaked at No. 7 on the Hot 100 chart.

Other stars who are in similar positions include Beyoncé and Cardi B. The former is also going on tour with hubby Jay Z for the On The Run II Tour, so expectations of a joint album are as high as they’ve ever been. Cardi B, on the other hand, has been more upfront and has already promised a new album coming in April, likely tied to her Coachella appearances.
