Kelela isn't one to shy away from an introspective video, animated or otherwise, and in "Frontline," the R&B songbird goes all the way digital. Characters in games like The Sims can do all of the things we wish we could, which is probably what makes it so popular in the first place. Add in a failing relationship and it's all the ingredients of the perfect breakup anthem.
Splitting with her boyfriend, a computer-generated Kelela sheds a quick tear before spending the rest of the video in a fly as hell silver Mercedes convertible. She smokes a little, picks up two of her friends for a joyride, and we even get a choreographed dance break to let us know just how over her computer love she really is.
Kelela broke the video down to Rolling Stone, explaining why she took the digital approach to the video. "I was able to tell my story in a light-hearted but dramatic way," she said. "It's about leaving your ex with the wind in your hair while acknowledging a curiously complex feeling of pain that he has left you for a white woman."
The singer worked alongside Mischa Norcutt and Claudia Matè for the video to come to life, and it's the perfect visual to go along with the third single off her 2017 debut, Take Me Apart.
