Black Panther: The Album is poised to get the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 list.
Billboardreports "industry forecasters" are predicting that the soundtrack will top the list with over 100,000 equivalent units earned.
If it does, it will be the second film soundtrack to top the list this year after The Greatest Showman. However, it'll be in good company since it's been three years since any film soundtrack topped the Billboard list. Back in 2015, Descendants, Pitch Perfect 2, Furious 7, and Empire: Original Soundtrack From Season 1 reached the coveted spot.
The album, which was produced by Kendrick Lamar and Top Dawg Entertainment CEO, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, features a slew of top artists including SZA, The Weeknd, Khalid, and James Blake as well as South African artists including Babes Wodumo, Saudi, Yugen Blakro, and Sjava. Since the album arrived on Feb. 9, K. Dot's track with The Weeknd "Pray For Me," also nabbed the No. 7 spot on Hot 100.
This news comes after reports that Black Panther will have one of the strongest opening weekends ever for Marvel. The film is projected to earn $165 million during its four-day President's Day weekend release which would make it the fifth biggest opening after The Avengers ($207.4 million), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.3 million), Captain America: Civil War ($179 million), and Iron Man 3 ($174 million).
Black Panther is set to be released on Friday, Feb. 16.
