While we wait for the day Black Panther hits theaters, Interscope has given fans the movie’s highly anticipated, star-studded soundtrack.
Black Panther: The Album officially it streaming services Thursday night, following weeks of single releases and increasing hype. The 14-track project include music by SZA, 2 Chainz, James Blake, the Weeknd, Travis Scott, Vince Staples, and Kendrick Lamar. The latter act was tapped to co-produce and curate the soundtrack alongside TDE head Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.
In a recent interview with NPR, Coogler revealed how K-Dot and the TDE crew became involved with the project. The director said the initial plan was for Kendrick to contribute only a few songs to the album; however, after the Damn rapper was given an early look at the film, he decided to take over the entire soundtrack.
“Hats off to [Kendrick] and his production team—they made some really great songs that we got placed in there,” Coogler told NPR this week. “And hats off to Sounwave, who's producing, and Ludwig [Göransson], who was able to manipulate the score to incorporate some of those songs and weave them in and out of the orchestral stuff that he was already doing. I can't wait for people to hear the music on that album, man.”
Well, thankfully for Coogler—and us—the wait is finally over.

Marvel’s Black Panther—which stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, and Angela Bassett—will hit U.S. theaters Feb. 16.
