The DJ who was convicted of groping Taylor Swift last year has found himself a new radio gig in Mississippi.
According to the New York Daily News, David Mueller has been tapped to co-host KIX 92.7’s morning show under the pseudonym Stonewall Jackson—a nod to the infamous Confederate general Thomas Jonathan “Stonewall” Jackson.
Trust us. The story gets worse.
Delta Radio CEO Larry Fuss defended the controversial hiring, claiming he and many others believe Mueller’s story over Swift’s.
“I sat down with him face-to-face in Minneapolis before I offered him the job and talked to him about it,” Fuss told the Daily News. “He's either the world's best liar, or he's telling the truth. I tend to believe his version of the story and most people who have talked to him face-to-face do believe his version of the story.”
To no one's surprise, Swift fans stormed Twitter to voice their anger over Fuss' desicion.
Fuss doesn’t seem too worried about the backlash he and the station are receiving on social media. After all, there's no such thing as bad publicity, especially if you're a tiny radio station in Mississippi.
“Most of [the critics] need to get a life. Most of the response I have seen this morning— there's been quite a few on our Facebook page, and none of it is radio people, none of it is local people in Mississippi,” he said. “It's all originating from some Taylor Swift fan group somewhere. They're telling people to go to this station's webpage and post negative comments. It's just people who don’t have a clue, or don’t really have any knowledge of the facts.”
Fuss admitted that the decision to hire Mueller was “maybe a tiny bit” about publicity. But he insists it was mostly about Mueller’s DJ skills.
“In the radio business, it's all about what comes out of the speakers,” Fuss said. “It's always been my goal to have something good-sounding coming out of the speakers. That's the reason I hired David. He sounds good.”
In 2013, Swift accused Mueller of sexually assaulting her during a meet-in-greet at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. Mueller was subsequently fired from his hosting job at Denver radio station KYGO, and eventually filed a $3 million lawsuit against Swift, claiming her false allegations cost him his job.
Swift countersued Mueller, who allegedly “reached under her skirt, and groped with his hand an intimate part of her body in an inappropriate manner, against her will, and without her permission.”
In August of 2017, a judge ruled in Swift’s favor and ordered Mueller to pay the singer a symbolic amount of $1.
