This Legendary Rock Star Is One of the Few to Ever Turn Down an Eminem Guest Verse

Eminem got turned down for the collab because Black Sabbath icon Tony Iommi didn't know who he was at the time.

Fair warning: The following story contains an unfortunate mention of "Bawitdaba" ear poisoner Kid Rock, so bear with me.

During a recent chat with Ryan J. Downey at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, Black Sabbath guitarist and founding member Tony Iommi dropped a surprising revelation about his 2000 solo album Iommi. As Iommi was gathering artists for the collab-heavy release, a request from one Marshall Mathers found its way into the mix. Iommi, however, turned down the collab request because—according toLoudwire—he was "wholly unaware" of Eminem's work at the time. Bummer. Presumably, Eminem awareness has since entered Iommi's life.

Tragically, Iommi did end up recording something with accomplished brain destroyer Kid Rock. For reasons Iommi did not reveal during Monday's discussion, that track (thankfully) failed to make the final cut of the album. Instead, the final version of Iommi featured appearances by Henry Rollins, Dave Grohl, Billy Corgan, Ozzy Osbourne, and more. If time travel were possible, we probably would have gotten a top-shelf Quavo feature out of the collection, too.

Eminem's relationship with the rockier side of the industry extends all the way back to his run on Warped Tour in 1999 alongside Blink-182, The Bouncing Souls, Suicidal Tendencies, Jimmy Eat World, and many more.

Here's Em performing "My Name Is" at Warped in Atlanta, as thousands of attendees dare him to stick nine inch nails through each one of his eyelids:
