Though he’s currently behind bars, Kevin Gates is doing everything he can to deliver new music.
Just a week after announcing the release of his next mixtape, By Any Means 2, the Louisiana rapper debuted a PnB Rock-assisted cut “Beautiful Scars.”
The song finds Gates reflecting on the tough lessons he received from the streets and how he has used that experience on the road to success. PnB handles the hook, singing: “If I had to, I would do it again/My partner died, but all my army still live/I wear my heart on my skin/Can’t forget where I’ve been/You gave me scars, beautiful scars.”
The song follows the tape’s previously released tracks “No Love,” “Had To,” and “What If,” which debuted last week with an official music video and Gates’ handwritten message to his fans.

By Any Means 2 is set to release Sept. 21. The 14-track project was teased earlier this year when Gates’ wife Dreka revealed she was putting it together while her husband served his sentence.
Gates was incarcerated in Illinois after pleading guilty to felony gun possession. The Illinois Department of Corrections’ website indicates he will be up for parole June 22, 2018.
