Gucci Mane Says He Would've Been a Kingpin If He Wasn't Rapping

Watch Gucci Mane discuss highlights from his new autobiography on the 'Daily Show' with Trevor Noah.

If Gucci Mane’s music career never panned out, he has a good idea of where life would’ve taken him.

“Honest to God, I think I would have been maybe a kingpin,” the rapper said at the 2:55 mark during a recent interview on The Daily Show. “Some kind of way I would have been a leader, man. I have a really good way of crewing people up.”

Gucci’s appearance was a part of a promotional tour for his newly released book, The Autobiography of Gucci Mane, co-written by Neil-Martinez Belkin. He and host Trevor Noah discussed the work’s highlights, including his engagement to Keyshia Ka'oir, falling asleep while filming his Spring Breakers sex scene, and selling weed in middle school to support his shopping habits.

The 37-year-old also spoke about spending a lot of time behind bars, and how he decided to change his life after his last prison sentence.

“It was a vicious cycle, and it kept repeating itself until this last time,” Gucci said at the 4:10 mark. “I think it was the consequences. Once my consequences got dire, when I was facing 20-30 years, it forced me to be like, ‘You know, that’s it. I’m changing my lifestyle. I’m changing my choices. I’m gonna reflect on my life and see what I did wrong.’”

Some of those changes, as we’ve seen, included cleaning up his physical health. Gucci opened up about his struggles with codeine and how he made the decision to leave lean behind.

“A lot of people done lost their lives to that and drugs in general. I could’ve been one of those artists that don’t wake up the next day. I don’t want that in my future,” he said at the 4:50 mark.

In other Gucci news, his book-signing event at Barnes & Noble in NYC almost turned disastrous when a couple of activists from PETA protested in front of him. In the video below, you can see a man criticizing him for wearing fur.

“Word on the street is that you thinking of going vegan,” the man shouted. “But you can’t be vegan if you keep wearing that fur!”

The individual was then joined by a woman, who began shouting: “Shame on Gucci, animal abuser!”

Gucci seemed to handle the situation extremely well. Possibly a sign of his inner kingpin?
