Metro Boomin Playfully Fact-Checks Diplo's Infamous Rihanna Story

But don't get it twisted. According to Metro himself, it's "all love."

Hey, you know that thing where we actually spend time cobbling together words on a single, arguably innocuous tweet? Apparently we're still doing that.

Wednesday night, Metro Boomin tweeted all of 17 words in response to Diplo's account of a studio session with Rihanna. Actually, if you remove the part of Metro's tweet that's just a direct quote from Diplo, Metro only wrote seven words on the topic. Seven. Words.

But back to the article. Here's the tweet in question:

lol @ "Metro Boomin was there before anyone knew who he was" don't speak 4 everybody nigga https://t.co/3MnaXjtGhz

In his recent interview with GQ Style, Diplo—while lamenting his unsuccessful attempts at getting Rihanna on a track—mentioned a studio session that also included Metro Boomin, Future, and the Weeknd. Here's the relevant portion of his story:

Another time I had a session with [Rihanna], and Future was also invited. The Weeknd was there. Metro Boomin was there before anybody knew who he was. I was so contact high.

Clearly, Metro Boomin is just having a little fun with Diplo's notion that no one knew who he was during the studio session in question. He suggested as much in follow-up tweets:

no harm, no foul. all love. 🖤 #positivemetro

The biggest headline factory booster from Diplo's interview, of course, was his recollection of Rihanna's description of one of his tracks as sounding like "a reggae song at an airport." The description, Diplo joked, made him want to "go kill myself." As the quote caught fire in typical quote fire-catching fashion, Rihanna issued a succinct apology for placing a portion of Diplo's catalog in the oft-overlooked airport reggae songs genre.

"#DutyFree 😂😂😂 My bad @diplo," Rihanna said on Instagram, to which Diplo responded with the continuation of his efforts at turning a Rihanna collaboration into reality. "We gonna get one tho," he said in the comments.
