James Leggett has been writing and performing music for some time now, whether as part of a band with the likes of Jonah Blue or actor Jamie Dornan, or as a songwriter for artists like V V Brown. With all that experience under his belt, Leggett is stepping out on his own under the Nearly Native moniker. His debut EP, Bones, sees him collaborate with a different vocalist; in the case of "Colour", he recruits pop singer FEMME for a half-sung-half-rapped refrain bursting with a distinct and classic rave sound. Citing influences as disparate as UK garage and movie scores, the Nearly Native project—in particular, debut single "Colour"—brings a palpable darkness to the club.
