There's no denying last year was a great period for album releases — on both sides of the Atlantic — and 2017 has been just as strong. This year's Hyundai Mercury Music Prize for album of the year, according to bookmakers, is one of the closest in years.

With Sampha, J Hus, Stormzy and Loyle Carner having released career-defining full-lengths, the competition amongst even just those four Complex favourites is heated enough. Throw in records from Ed Sheeran, Kate Tempest and The xx, and it's easy to see why this one is so tough to call this time around.

Alt-J - Relaxer
Blossoms - Blossoms
Dinosaur - Together, As One
Ed Sheeran - Divide
Glass Animals - How To Be A Human Being
J Hus - Common Sense
Kate Tempest - Let Them Eat Chaos
Loyle Carner - Yesterday's Gone
Sampha - Process
Stormzy - Gang Signs & Prayer
The Big Moon - Love In The 4th Dimension
The xx - I See You

The overall winner of the 2017 Prize will be announced at the Hyundai Mercury Prize Awards Show on Thursday 14th September.
