Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, West Coast trio the Flavr Blue return with a summer-centric single and video "Top Down."

"With how much batshit fuckery is going down on the daily in our world, our aim is to provide a little over three minutes of a windswept convertible sensation, a fresh breeze in the midst of the grind," singer Hollis says of the song.

If Flavr Blue, and the voice of Hollis in particular, sound familiar, it's for good reason: She was nominated for a Grammy for her singing and songwriting on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' single "White Walls"; Flavr Blue, which also consists of rapper Parker and singer Lace, opened for the duo last year on tour as well.

After two previous projects, 2015's Love Notes and 2013 EP Bright Vices, that focused mostly on electronica and pop, "Top Down" is a return to the Seattle and L.A.-based group's roots; they met at a rap show in 2012, after all. "It represents a full circle moment for us as a band," says Lace. "After years of exploring other sounds and styles, we naturally came back into the r&b and rap realm."

The song, which Parker says has "the vibe of a spaced out 'Cha Cha'" by D.R.A.M., is the first peek of music from the Flavr Blue's upcoming album, due later this year. In the meantime, set off your summer right by checking out the Zarna Surti-directed video for "Top Down" above.
